About this deal

The information is presented but it is not really 'spun' or skewed to try and get the reader to jump to a conclusion. From their humble childhood days in New Haven, CT, to their move to California and the fame that would ultimately take them the world stage, this is by far the definitive Carpenters biography (and sadly the only one) that has ever been written.

This beautifully illustrated definitive biography, with exclusive interviews and never-before-seen photographs, is a must-have for any Carpenters fan.Two months into their relationship, Burris told Karen he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her. I think the last thing in the world that she would have wanted was for her death to define her life.

Carpenters: The Musical Legacy” (Princeton University Press), coming 50 years after the duo's earliest hits, was co-written by Richard Carpenter, along with Associated Press journalist Mike Cidoni Lennox and Chris May. Outwardly Karen seemed committed to the idea of therapy, but as evidenced by her daily walking regimen, she was not as committed to making actual changes that would result in real progress. This is a magnificent look at the brother and sister duo who captured our hearts and ears throughout much of the ‘70s. Pretty much if they liked a song they did it and based on the merits (or demerits) of the song itself and not based on anything personal outside of Richard and Karen's musical abilities and whether the song had appeal or not to Karen and Richard.

Richard has given the authors unprecedented access, including hours of new interviews and thousands of never-before published images from his personal archive. He credits a less famous name with a well-known sound, choral arranger Judd Conlon, whose work appeared in Disney’s “Peter Pan” and “Alice in Wonderland. I had heard from people that knew Ray that there were some problems and that Ray would apologize for including some things in his book that he felt weren't written accurately. She purchased a hip cycle, which she used each morning on her bed, and because it was portable the equipment was packed and taken with her on tour. I’m unsure whether I’ve ever waved my phone around as a fake lighter in the crowd before, a gesture of appreciation for the music, but I did here.

Honestly, Richard knew Karen very well and as someone reads through they should understand that this section actually shows why Karen wasn't honestly getting help. It's safe to say that every musician has released that "dud" album that was a blight on their career. Now, for the very first time in over 30 years, the voice that melted a thousand romantic hearts lives again through Toni Lee, in this remarkable live show. The stigma surrounding mental illness and a need for therapy was frightening for the family, especially Agnes, who felt Karen was simply going overboard as far as dieting was concerned. It has the heft and visual history of a coffee table book, but it's also a nearly note-for-note musical biography of the pair that goes back to their childhood lives in New Haven, Connecticut, where Richard Carpenter found the seeds of the group's sound in his father's records and a toy jukebox.Agnes couldn't do it," says Itchie Ramone, who discussed the meeting with Karen and Levenkron after the family left. It was not the inspiring musicians story I expected, but rather a very sad account of the lives of very rich artists.
