About this deal

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Haven't finished reading yet, but implementing what I have learned, we almost manage passing other dogs without barking.

So, finding this program helped me see how to help my reactive dog and owner read, communicate, and bond better, so trust could surface. A major goal of Control Unleashed (CU) is to “create awareness of complex responses to stimulation and help each handler think through how she can adjust her dog to different situation” and thereby honor each dog. They've helped my Patterdale terrier with her focus and self control generally and that's beginning to have affect when we do agility. Leslie McDevitt's versatile Control Unleashed® program is designed to help "dogs with issues" learn how to relax, focus, and work off-leash reliably in either stimulating or stressful situations. Not all dogs learn the same way and learning different options of communicating will help strengthen the bond and focus between you and your dog.A must have for every dog trainer and for all those who would like to work with their dogs on certain issues, motivation, focus and attention. Aimed at both the professional dog trainer and dog owners alike, it is well written and clearly explains a programme of practical exercises which can be undertaken as part of a class or on your own. My problem with the book was that in the middle of a discussion on training methods and terms used in the discussion, the book referrers to future chapters for a detailed discussion of the method and/or terms.

Feels amazing, when meeting the other dog on street, I don't have to be the one who reacts first, to avoid barking and lunging, but can prepare to have treats ready when she turns around to look if I have noticed how nice LAT she just did <3 Long way to go, but seems it really works! Later I heard this handler "had a little talk with his dogs, behind a trailer before entering a ring. Letting the dog make choices and actively participate not only gives the dog control over his own learning, but it also establishes trust and fosters a spirit of communication. Leslie McDevitt’s versatile Control Unleashed program is designed to help “dogs with issues” learn how to relax, focus, and work off-leash reliably in either stimulating or stressful situations. Her background in behaviour modification and her experience working with dog sports clients led her to create her popular course, Control Unleashed. I was training with a successful, well known, highly recommended handler and on my turn was told "pop her, pop her, pop her.

However, what makes her approach unique and valuable to me is that she prescribes a novel combination of ways to do this and one that can be adapted to individuals. In chapter six, McDevitt works on increasing both enthusiasm and focus in a distracting environment, by teaching the Give Me A Break game, a simple and powerful way to increase the dog’s attention and eagerness to work with you. We are slowly working ourselves through the CU program and I hope that the exercises will continue to help (me and) my dog to be able to cope with the world around him. She specializes in creating operant counterconditioning procedures to empower working, performance, and pet dogs to feel safe and comfortable so they can function confidently in stressful environments.I haven't competed in agility, but it struck me that at a dog show it was the agility dogs that truly impressed me.

Dog owners look to us to keep them safe, ensure an environment conducive to learning and use our special knowledge and skills to handle the out of control dog that threatens to disrupt class. Leslie's books have been translated into multiple languages and Leslie has taught the material from her seminal book Control Unleashed: Creating a Focused and Confident Dog to people and dogs all around the world. McDevitt stresses that this is a behavioural programme and not an agility class or obedience programme. I have long wondered if this is necessary or even desirable but dared not question such a bedrock principle in training, especially without being able to propose an alternative.

McDevitt also shows us parallel games, which gives the dog a task to focus on while working near other dogs.
